A homey dessert with different famous names, in Spain and Central America it is brazo gitano (gypsy´s arm); jelly roll in English; arrollado or enrollado in some parts of South America… But for us, it is, and always will be our craved Pionono. Sometimes it’s filled with dulce de leche, other times with jelly, fruits, whipped cream, chocolate cream… the list never ends, because every person who makes it has his or her own recipe.
With the holidays approaching, we are introducing our delicious Pionono, in two different versions: One filled with dulce de leche and topped with berries, and the other one filled with our exquisite homemade whipped cream mixed with fresh strawberries!!

Milhojas: a thousand layers of Latin American sweetness ...
In it's simplest form, Milhojas consists of a special thin layered dough and filling. Milhojas is thought to have originated in the city of Valencia, Spain in the 18th century. The pastry quickly became a popular dessert throughout Spain and Portugal, and eventually made its way to Latin America, where it remains a favored treat today. There are many variations of Milhojas, our recipe is originally from my hometown Lima, an ancient dessert filled with manjarblanco (dulce de leche) that still a worldwide favorite. 30.00 USD

In fact, it is so sweet that I always accompany it with a huge glass of water to cut down its intensity. It also goes well with tea, or even a small glass of any liquor. But don´t get me wrong, you will find this dessert exquisite and love to have it (in small portions, of course). If you give it a try, you won´t regret it. It´s quite an unforgettable treat for those with a sweet tooth!
Suspiro limeño was probably inspired by manjarblanco, a Peruvian version of the famous dulce de leche, which was at its peak popularity during the Spanish colonial times.
